Stay away Hurricane Matthew!

We are into the first week of October and there is a Category 4 Hurricane heading towards the south east coast of Florida and heading due north towards the Carolinas. Keep Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas, and all the other countries in our prayers in lieu of the destruction and heartache caused by Hurricane Matthew. It has been a while since Florida has been hit buy a hurricane and I hope everyone has made the proper preparations to weather this storm.

September fishing has been very good this year but the charter business has been slow for me. This gives us a chance to get caught up on our tackle and boat maintenance. We recently painted the deck of the Frick and Frack along with some other odds and ends so she will be ready for Battle this upcoming season. September and October are transition months, when all the kids go back to school and families are conserving there wages. The media blowing up the Zika scare hasn't helped our business either but thank fully it is finally under control.

The last few weeks the kingfishing has been red hot in the morning and late afternoon. We have been catching the kings on artificials and some on live bait. Mixed in with them have been bonitos, wahoo, barracudas, and sailfish. The sailfish bite has turned on the past few days thanks to a northeast wind and north current. Sailfish love north current. It seems they have been biting well all summer long when the conditions are right with some boats even catching double digits which is rare for the summer time.

  Offshore the mahi action has picked up. We have been catching some nice gaffers under floating debris with some big triple tail, almaco jacks, and wahoo underneath.

  I spent the last week in Prince Edward Island Canada with some friends of mine and my parents. We were supposed to go giant tuna fishing for four days but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate so we could only do one out of the two days. The first day was a bust with only one tuna bite. Day two changed and we were able to get my father on the rod to catch a 656 lb tuna. Prince Edward Island is famous for it's blue point oysters and mussels. Most of the mussels you find all around the world come from Prince Edward Island. The climate was beautiful and the scenery was breathtaking. I was blessed to spend some quality time with my parents and good friends.

  I would expect the fishing to improve drastically after Hurricane Matthew departs South Florida. Generally after a big storm like this the water get's churned up and the bottom fishing can be exceptional. I would also expect the mahi mahi fishing to be excellent due to all the floating debris coming from the run off of the other islands that have gotten hit by Matthew.
