Sailfish are here!

Over the past few weeks the sailfish have finally shown up in decent numbers. The sailfish challenge was held last weekend with 75 boats that entered. My brother was on the first place boat with 18 sailfish, the next contender only had 13 fish. There team won by a landslide. Hats off to the crew on team Jichi. What a show they put on.

  The following day we fished for a half day and caught 5-7 sailfish. The water has been a nice color and the current has picked up out of the north. These are the conditions you want when targeting sailfish. There were also a handful of white marlin caught in the tournament with some monster kingfish, dolphin, and cobia.

  Wreck fishing has been stable the last few months. There have been some big amberjacks on the wrecks, lots of giant game sharks up to 300lbs,african pompano and cobia down south.

  Further offshore the swordfish bite has picked up with the commercial boats catching 6-8 fish per night. I haven't had an oppurtunity to go swordfishing lately but the forecast looks good for the next couple weeks. February and March have always been good for me in the past do to the big schools of baitfish that these migrators are following.

Inshore fishing has been consistent as well with some big snook in the inlets and tarpon on the beach at night.

I have some openings this month but they are filling up fast. If you would like to go and target any of the above species I mentioned now is a good time.
