Mixed Bag

Over the past few weeks the weather in the north east has gotten extremely poor. Snow storms, sleet, and lots of wind have blown the snowbirds to South Florida to enjoy some beautiful sunshine and great fishing.

Inshore fishing has been excellent over the past few days. We have had lots of cold weather, hard north easterly winds, and a full moon which are ideal conditions for the shrimp to start running. On the outgoing tides at night surrounding bridges, lights, jetties, and beaches are ambush points for the tarpon, sea trout, ladyfish, jack crevelle, and Spanish mackeral!

Evening and night time trips are four hours and run from 5p.m-10p.m. The waters are smooth and you always have a chance of catching that 100 pound tarpon on light tackle! Luckily our clients have captured tarpon on every trip this past month. Like I mentioned before there are plenty of by catch while targeting these silver kings, which make for great fun while waiting for the elusive tarpon to bite.

  The sailfishing has slowed down over the past two weeks but the mahi and tuna bite have picked up. Boats are catching there limit of mahi along with blackfin, wahoo, and skip jack tuna just a few miles from the shore.

I did a reef trip with my cousins husband and family on Feb. 8. The day started off on the first reef catching yellowtail snappers, trigger fish, and Spanish mackeral. We later anchored up on a deeper wreck to catch some bigger yellowtail and bonita. At the end of the trip the father requested to dolphin troll. No later than a few moments there was a nice mahi in the boat. A half hour later we caught one more dolphin. Always nice spending time with family and catching some quality fish for the table.

  If you are a trophy hunter I have good news. There have been reports of giant sharks and swordfish being caught in the area on a daily basis. With the March full moon getting bigger there is a great chance at getting a crack at a sea monster. A few species of game sharks that were caught this week have been silky, golden hammer head, sickle fin hammerhead, tiger, and sandbar just to name a few.

  We are now entering my favorite time of year for fishing South Florida. As you can see there are many options of fish to catch. From novice to professional we will try our hardest to accommodate your needs and requests.
