Marlin Time

Report Date: June 1, 2016

This past month started out with some very good fishing off the edge of Miami. Offshore there were plenty of mahi’s under frigate birds up to about 25 lbs. Later in the day when the sun gets lower we have been catching some quality size blackfin tuna, sailfish, big sharks, and kingfish! The swordfishing has been very productive from what I’ve heard. I haven’t had any swordfish trips but a good friend of mine captured two over 300 lbs yesterday and lost another big one close to the boat.

I was fortunate to fish three billfish tournaments in the Bahamas over the past few weeks with some good friends of mine. Out of the three tournaments we ended up with a third place, second place, and another third place. The fishing was some of the best I have seen in the Bahamas. Out of nine days that I fished ,the tally was 1 sailfish, 2 white marlin and 10 blue marlin up to 552 lbs.

I will be heading back to the Bahamas this week and hope the fishing continues to be good. I still have some availabilities towards the middle of June. The swordfish bite should continue to produce, along with some consistent mahi and wahoo futher offshore.

Fishing closer towards the reef will yield plenty of bonitas, kingfish, blackfin tuna, and sailfish.
Hope everyone had a safe Memorial day weekend as you adjust back to the work week.
