Island TimeReport Date: July 10, 2017Sorry for the delayed report. I spent the past month travelling back and forth to the Bahamas. I fished a series of marlin tournaments in the Abacos but did not have much luck. Fishing was very good for some boats but did not pan out for us. We did catch some nice mahi mahi and a handful of blue and white marlin. The last trip I made over the Fourth of July holiday was in San Salvador which had better results. Out of the 7 days we fished we captured 6 blue marlin up to 650 lbs, some big dolphin, along with blackfin and yellowfin tuna. We caught more in 6 days off San Sal then I did in 5 weeks fishing the Abacos. San Salvador is a unique place which is 360 miles from Miami. The diving and fishing there are impeccable.
Fishing in Miami has been very consistent. The past couple days I fished we caught plenty of schoolie mahis, snapper, grouper, amberjacks,kingfishg and lots of bonitas. I have also heard of some big wahoos around which is typical this time of year around the full moon when the bonitas show up in numbers.
I did a few swordfish trips but didn’t have much luck possibly do to the full moon.The good thing about swordfishing is that we have twenty miles to search for mahi's on the way out and the way in. These can save your trip especially when the swordfishig is slow.
Inshore fishing has been producing plenty of large snook. They come in big schools to spawn in the inlets and up the rivers this time of year. Aside from the snook there are plenty of jack crevelle and tarpon to keep you busy.
I am done travelling for now so I can concentrate on fishing Miami. I still have availabilities the end of this month and some dates in August. Great time of year to go to the Bahamas. Calm seas and lots of sunshine. Capt. Freddie
