Over the past few weeks, it is finally starting to feel like winter. With the cold fronts on there way the fishing is heating up.

Starting with the inshore. The shrimp are moving, due to the cold weather. On their path are a number of predators. Fishing the inlets at night has been most productive. Preferably on an outgoing tide there have been numbers of snook and tarpon. We offer a four hour sunset trip which entails drifting along the beach with live shrimp gazing at the stars and the siloute of the downtown Miami skylights.

  Now the offshore. I’ve done a variety of trips over the past month ranging from kite fishing, to bottom fishing, along with a few bahama trips. Locally the fishing has been pretty good. Kite fishing on the reef has been productive for sailfish. My best day this year has been 24 sailfish. There was a boat that caught 44 the day before. This exceptional fishing occurred when there was a strong north wind opposing a north current creating a large ground swell. When this happens something triggers these fish to start migrating. If you are lucky and out the day they are pouring through it is quite the sight to see.

  The bottom and wreck fishing has been consistent, also. On the deep ledges and shipwrecks there have been a lot of amberjacks and groupers. We managed to catch a 22lb mutton snapper on 20lb spin the other day. What a fight that was.

  Lastly I have done several Bahama trips over the past month. Fishing has been effective there as well. We have been catching lots of snappers and groupers along with our fare share of wahoos. One boat caught a nice blue marlin the last trip I was there.

The fishing this year has started out with a bang and is just going to get better. So lets get out there and catch some fish.
