Happy Halloween

This past month has been on the slow side for charter fishing but luckily I have been able to fish on some other boats to stay busy.

In the beginning of the month I was invited to fish Bimini with my friend Mario on the No Vacansea. We had a two day weather window so we decided to try wahoo fishing. The first day we fished the afternoon on the outgoing tide in front of Bimini. We trolled for three hours but had no luck. Afterwards we ran into some acquaintances of Mario on South Bimini where we stayed the night and had a big dinner.
The next day we woke up early in the morning and were determined to catch some wahoo. This time we trolled north by Great Isaac. Everybody had their game face on but to our astonishment we did not catch any wahoo. After 1 p.m. with no hits we changed our game plan and decided to look for mahi mahi on the way home. About thirty miles offshore Capt. Mario spotted a giant weed line. He shouted at his son to cast a jig out and within minutes there was a nice dolphin hooked on the line. The father and son duo managed to catch five or six dolphin and some bar jacks. Persistence paid off and the boys had some meat in the box. It was a pleasure fishing with Capt. Mario on the No Vacansea and I would definitely recommend him for charter fishing off of Fort Lauderdale. He is a very knowledgeable fishing captain with lots of experience.

Fishing the reef in Miami has been on the slow side over the past few weeks. We have been catching kingfish, small tuna, wahoo, and an occasional sailfish with the live baits. There is a cold front coming this weekend which should get the sailfish moving. November is a good time to catch sailfish as our waters start to cool.

  The deep dropping has been good over the past week. There hasn’t been much current offshore which enables us to bottom fish outside of 300 ft. While pounding the deep water we have been catching golden tile, barrel fish, vermillion and yellow eye snappers. Most of the deep dropping we do is with an electric reel but can also be done by manual if that is your preference.

  I’m still hearing of some good swordfish reports as November is my favorite month to target them. The Bahamas has been producing wahoo, tuna, mahi, and plenty of bottom fish as well this time of year. I hope everybody had a good Halloween and am looking forward to the upcoming fishing season in South Florida.
