Halloween Hoos
Report Date: November 1, 2012
We are finally into November and have already had our first cold front with a tropical storm mixed in. These storms have caused the biggest ground swell that South Florida has ever seen. A surfers paradise. Cold fronts bring a variety of migrating gamefish to south
florida. With lots of bait schools migrating our way I think it is going to be a good season!
As I have reported last month the wahoo and swordfish have continued to be strong. I made one trip to Bimini this past month on a friend of mines 33’ invincible. The first day we fished was very good. We ended up going 7-7 on wahoo up to 35lbs. We were very content and excited and were looking forward to fish the next day. The following day was exceptional fishing. It was as good as it gets for wahoo fishing. We fished for two hours and caught 11 wahoos up to 38lbs. We landed two triple headers, a double, and three singles and were heading home by 11 a.m. Wahoo fishing is one of my favorite types of fishing. You are trolling at speeds up to 20mph and when that reel screams it sounds like the reel is going to explode. This will definitely get your adrenaline going.
I have been able to do a couple swordfish trips last month. Both trips were successful. We caught two swordfish at night and two swordfish in the daytime. The fish were not monsters but a swordfish is a swordfish. With the coldfronts to continue for the next few months it should just get better and better as we move into the winter months.
The sailfishing in South Florida is heating up. The sandman fished yesterday and caught 14. These are remarkable numbers for the first cold front of the year. We deploy live baits from kites and flatlines when targeting sailfish. They are a great fish to catch on light tackle. They are the fastest swimming fish and are an exciting game fish do to there acrobatic jumps and fast runs. Besides from the sailfishing, the bottom fishing is very good. There are some big amberjacks, groupers, and snappers on the wrecks.
November is a very good time for bottom fishing South Florida. As you can see the fishing this time of year can be very productive. There are a variety of species to target. Whether it be inshore fishing for giant tarpon, snook, trout, jack crevelle or offshore fishing for trophy sharks, swordfish, or sailfish we can accommodate targeting the fish of your preference.
