Exotics!Report Date: March 1, 2017Fishing in South Florida has heated up over the past few weeks and has gotten even better the past few days thanks to some blue water and north current pushed in hard to the reef.
My brother Jimmy David who runs the charter boat L and H out of Key Biscayne,Fl. has done the unthinkable. He spotted and landed a half ton mako shark and two days later guided a father and son team to three white marlin in a morning half. Hard work and preparation are key components into my brother and family’s success.
The sailfish have still been prevalent along with some big dolphin showing up under frigate birds. Kite fishing with live threadfins has been the preferred method for big kingfish, wahoo, bonita, barracuda, mahi-mahi and sailfish.
Last week there was also a push of yellowfin tuna in the 25-50lb range. These are a rarity in our waters but they are greatly welcomed!
Inshore the tarpon fishing has been consistent. Shrimp has been the bait of choice while fishing the inlets, beaches, and bridges. I still have dates available for the upcoming week.
